Campaign walk - 23 July
On the evening of 23rd July more than 20 members of The Ramblers took part in a walk arranged to enable the members to see the paths and countryside that is at the heart of this campaign. It gave more realism to the problems of getting safe access from Poundbury to the surrounding countryside and in particular to Maiden Castle.
It gave the opportunity to see how the underpasses would greatly add to pedestrian safety. Also there was the evidence of a previously used path (referred to as the EW path) by virtue of an old stile.
One pleasing improvement was of a bridleway that has been given correct legal access, after being shut off for over 20-years. It is interesting that contrary to objections to the proposed EW path, on safety grounds, this bridleway has been using a farm track without, it seems, any problem to the farmer for his operations.
